Second Look.
Briefly, second means anything behind the first and a look can be described as directing one's attention to anything. According to the bible story in the 2nd book of Samuel chapter 11. The verse 2 reads ; one day, late in the afternoon, David got up from his nap and went to the palace roof. As he walked about up there, he saw a woman having a bath. She was very beautiful. Now, these questions came to my mind.
First of all, how did David know that the woman was beautiful? and even, why didn't David leave the palace roof immediately when he saw a woman bathing? Fast forward, David could have left the roof immediately when had seen a woman take her bath. Instead of leaving he stayed, and as he stayed he took a second look by directing his attention to the woman and this is how he knew she was beautiful as the Bible describes.
This is to say, second looks are dangerous. The moment David directed his attention on the woman bathing, there, he was tempted to go further and sin. Second looks are tempting and shouldn't be something we entertain. Now, all these sins that our youthful selves are addicted to today, is after we took a second look at that particular sin. You can definitely bear with me, that if we didn't go back to directing our attention on the sin we first saw, we would be free from sinning. Let's not forget, the devil has a way of using second looks to lead us into sin. Another reference from back in Genesis, when Eve took a second look at the forbidden fruit, it was at that same point that the devil tempted her to eat it. Also in the new testament, the very moment Ananias and his wife had a second look at the money they had already decided to give to the Apostles, the devil had a way of luring Ananias to keep part of the money and at the end he lost his life. Coming to think of it, Joseph did well, he didn't take second looks at Potiphar's wife, if he did, he would have also sinned.
Brethren, it is my dearest prayer, that the Good Lord will grant us the grace and power to avoid second looks which direct our attention to sin. May the God who gives us peace make you holy in every way and keep your whole being — spirit, soul, and body — free from every fault at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you will do it, because he is faithful. (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24). Thank you, Master Jesus for this inspiration. Hallelujah, Amen. Embrace, 🥂!
